Morning Mommy Self-Talk

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

Moms never quit, and some of the greatest/quietest leaders (moms) in history persevere heartaches, disappointments, lost, endless late nights, and still do it all over again the next morning.

Moms don’t quit, because there is no other options. They always hope, always believe, and always love.

Maybe some of the great leaders of tomorrow will learn these lessons from being blessed with a kind mom…

Lunch Notes

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章, Family Life

So school has started here in this household for the second week.  I am slowly but surely getting into the morning routines of getting up early, making breakfast and packing lunch boxes while being half asleep.  Putting a few wonderful fruits into the blender with couple scoops of protein powders, and at last, my morning glory of food preparation is done.  Not too bad at all.  Consider I am a total night owl, I am always amazed at the hidden skill I display morning by morning, to create something tasty, healthy and appealing for my teenage kids.

Well, this school year calls forth something inside of me.  I decide to put a love note in their lunch boxes.  Now that my three younger kids are all in high school, it dawns on me that the days of my making lunches for them are numbered, and the time they will get these little short lunch notes from me are decreasing by the month.  So what’s a sentimental mother to do?  Write away in the mornings, of course.

After a long Labor Day weekend, I was thrown into a funny loop in the morning yesterday.  I practically couldn’t keep my eyes open while making hot breakfasts for the family, let alone remembering my notes.  Three hours later, I awoke to the realization that lunch notes were not written!!!  Not a big deal, I thought..  Sure enough, when the kids came home in the afternoon, they all casually mentioned the missing thing in their lunch box.  Ha!

It’s nice to know that I’ve got eager readers.  So, here we go again this new day.  I re-programed my morning routine at 6 am, managed to write something coherent and signed off with lots of love, packed a wonderful looking lunch and thankful that little things in life still add joy to the ones I love.

May all our loved ones at school feel our love when they open that box!

Reflection on Christ Being Our Light

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

2 Corinthians 4-6

“…the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God… For God, who said,’let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

The gospel is the light to a human darkened soul.  The very proclaimation that “arise, shine for your light has come” in the Old Testiment, or “because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” in Luke, the importance of light coming into this world is repeatedly declared throughout the Bible.  Light is found when there is no darkness, no hideness, no sinfulness; and to the degree there is true purity, there is true light.  Thus there is only one possible purest light, in the man Jesus.  He is the gospel.  He is the light.  He declared that He is the light of the world.

Here in 1 Corinthians 4, once again, He being the light is stated.  ”The light of the gospel the glory of Christ” – what a statement.  To make it even plainly, clearly, it follows, ” Who is the image of God.”  We know from Hebrews that Jesus is the very representative of the Father.  He bears the exact image of God.  The light of the gospel is in Christ.  His glory, or His beauty is in refelcting the likeness of the Father, the exact reflection of Father – His love, kindness, wisdom, leadership, purity, beauty, righteousness, full of grace and truth.  There is absolutely no darkness in the Father.  There is only pure brilliance and clarity.  Thus this is what the Son is like.

The same God who said in Gen. 1, “let there be light”, the One created light out of darkness is the same one who creates light out of our darkness, which our soul is the most darkened before we knew Christ.  He “let light shine out of darkness” by making His light (His Son) shine in our hearts and through Holy Spirit, give us the light (understanding) of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

The work of Holy Spirit, which is to contineously reveal the knowledge of the Son of God will thus be leading us into the glorious understanding of who God is, what God is like, how God thinks and why God works certain way.  The spirit of revelation and wisdom will lead us into the incredible light of knowing the glory (beautiful heart) of God.  How?  Through giving us insight in the face of Jesus Christ – in ushering us in beholding this Man, looking inot His eyes, staring at the words proceeds from His mouth, watching Him, we gain understanding of His glory.

In the Middle of the NIght

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

Have’t been up in the middle of the night for a long time.  Woke up from an intense dream and decided to get up and listen to some good teaching.  So glad I decided to get up – I feel like I just won some precious price, with the extra three, four hours gained from getting up in the middle of the night.

While it’s early, very early in my side of the world, it’s already mid day for another part of the world.  The technology has brought the whole world so much closer in a real way.  I think about Israel at this moment, the sight, sound, people, and the land and think about the affection I felt when I was at that land.  How I miss that place and one day will be back.  I think also about Taiwan.  Since this summer, Taiwan has once again become very dear and close to my heart.  I miss the streets, noises, and the signature trademark of that big city of Taipei where I grew up.  I look forward to going back one day and to experience that city again.

In the middle of the night, I pray for peace and blessings of the Lord on these two lands.  May revival come quickly to the people and the society.  May love abound and hope becomes the very spirit of the people of these two countries.

Returning to my learning now.  Good morning to my world!

From Within

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

Happiness is to be with you.

To see even dimly Your eyes of love looking at me, that love burns like fire, goes through all the layers and goes straight into the deepest part of my soul and stirs such a holy passion to love You back – this is purity, love, and devotion that I have come to give you.

Come and waltz into my space, in a moment, twirl me into the place where You are, take me there, before Your throne where endless glory, beauty, love, life and light are the movement, sound and the air I can see and breath.

From deep within, I am longing for the One I love, and the One who loves me so profoundly.  Draw me closer, draw me near, until I am where You are.

and Therefore

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

I write to find friends; I read to know I am not alone.

I study to know I can still grow; I look to find treasure.

I talk to be a voice; I listen to stay humble.

I think because I am alive; I stop to gain perspective.

Books

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

Been reading multiple books lately.  Just finished a couple and attempting to finish another one.  I picked up C. S. Lewis’ the Four Loves.  Though so famous, I have never read through this beloved author’s books.  However the other day I saw a quote by him and from that point on, I decide that I will read all his books before the end of next year.  The quote that inspired me is, “I read to know that I am not alone.”  Oh, how I find a confidant in that statement.  I so wish I was born much earlier and had a chance to know Mr. Lewis in person.  I have a feeling that he and I will enjoy a friendship/pen-pal-ship.

However, I am determined that I will still find a friend in his writings, much similar to finding a friend in all of Corrie ten Boom’s books.  Well written books by intelligent authors will always lead a hungry soul to a place of understanding and enrichment.  I hope one day I will write some books that will qualify as such.

Wind and Wave

Posted by: Karen Cheng  |  Filed under English entries - 英文文章

Woke up to a monstrous windy sound while it was still peach dark outside.  Not able to see the actual landscape, I imagined a huge snow storm of some sort had arrived coupled with a furious gusty wind.  However, when I went really close to the kitchen window, I realized everything was just like yesterday – the grass was still green, the trees were bare, but no snow, no ice and no storm, just really strong wind.  Breathing out relief, I am glad there is one more day of fall still in the air.

The waves on the water are choppy this morning.  The normally calm water is billowing like surfers’ dreams.  White foams not far away from shore clearly draw out the intensity of the power of the waves.  This is a serious fierce wavy morning for sure.  Well, good morning world, I whisper as I try to open my heavy eyelids and get my morning started.  Gradually pink rays filled the western sky that separate the horizon.  Now where the sky ends and water begins is clearly drawn by a block of pinkish orange sunlight.  I love the colors displayed outside this morning.  The canvas of nature is beautiful.  Thank you Lord, for the wind, the wave, and the pink sunrise.

From darkness to dawn, all it took was a few minutes.  What magical change of scenes, what grand entry. Time to get busy.
