Lanyu, or ‘Orchid Island’ is a small, impoverished island off of the coast of Taiwan. It is inhabited mostly by the native Yami people. The island serves as a national nuclear waste dump. It receives little government assistance, and its inhabitants scrap a subsistence-level existence from this typhoon-battered land.
Lan En Cultural and Educational Foundation is a Christian organization which aims to help the people of this island through education, cultural development and medicine. Among the many things this organization does, it offers a youth center, a preschool and an orphanage for this island. Crescendo Music offered up the first month CD sale proceeds from ‘Dawn to Dusk’ to this organization, in their efforts to help the children of Lanyu.
